Charity
We are living in wealthy societies in western europe, far away from war and natural disasters (usually). There are regions on the world where a life is so much harder, risky and poorer than here. But even amongst us there are people in urgent need for help.
Some years ago I started working for UNICEF, but to be honest: we didn't got warm. I admire the work of UNICEF very much, but what they asked me to do was simply not what I wanted or what I was able to do. So I left them again still in the hope to find other usefull things to do with my sparetime and knowledge.
About two years ago I learned about the Kinderhilfe Afghanistan (German Aid for Afghan Children). This organisation is completey privately driven by the Erös Family. What they have achieved over the last decade as NGO (none government organisation) is simply outstanding ! Last year I met Dr. Reinhard Erös the first time personally and I have to admit never having spoken to someone with so much passion for his work, with so much knowledge of what he is talking about and who is that charismatic as he is. Since then I try to collect fundings and other items of need for him via my website Swyx Forum. Still with small success as I have to admit, but I am not going to give up that easily ;-)
Dr. Erös has written two books, Tee mit dem Teufel and Unter Taliban, Warlords und Drogenbaronen. The latter book will be available in english language as well. If you are interested in high efficient charity work, in the history and current situation in afghanistan and lot's of first hand information these both books are highly recommended.
Inspired by the work of Dr. Erös a close friend of mine, Ute Sparenberg, has founded the Kalkutta Hilfe. She collects any kind of medical equipment from hospitals arround Bad Pyrmont and regularly transports it personally to a hospital in Kalkutta. The Kalkutta Hilfe is a support project for the comittee Ärzte für die Dritte Welt.
Honoring my hobby (web design) I have started to offer my knowledge to charity organisations. This is the least thing I can do to help on charity projects. So today I am proud of having helped the both service organisations Round Table and Ladies Circle with websites as also the Kalkutta Hilfe.
Even small things are worth to be done !
